The goals of Oral Appliance Therapy for OSA is as follows:
Mild: Reduce AHI < 10
Moderate: Reduce AHI < 10
Severe: Reduce AHI by 50%
In order to determine which appliance will work best for each patient it is important to analyze the PSG study and evaluate the Eccovision results. These diagnostic results show us where the airway is blocked and what is the best appliance to use in order to open the airway. The Eccovision technology also helps us to make these determinations. It also provides the blueprint to fit the trial appliance for optimal fit and ideal jaw position to keep the airway open. Without using this technology, the process of appliance design and fabrication and fitting would be filled with guesswork. Once the position is determined, with the trial mouthpiece, then a second sleep study is done in order to confirm that your appliance will work. The final appliance is then fabricated and custom fit to your mouth.
